constant-diameter cylinder. Other common shapes for compression
springs include conical, concave (hourglass), convex (barrel),
or various combinations of these as required by the compression
spring application. Applications are as widespread as sizes,
ranging from hearing aides to PTO shafts on farm implements.
While
square, rectangular, or special-section wire may have to be
specified, round wire is predominant because it is readily available
and adaptable to standard coiler tooling. The ends may be ground,
a service we offer, to allow the spring to sit squarely or the
ends can be manufactured to your custom specification.
Compression
springs should be stress-relieved (heat treated) to remove the
forming stresses created by the coiling operation.
